Instrumental Music (Band Program for 4th and 5th Grade Students Only)

Green Valley Elementary School Instrumental Music Registration Information

** Open to all 4th and 5th graders **

Individual Goals:

Students will be able to finger and play notes with proper technique and breath control on their instrument.
Students will be able to identify and understand basic music symbols and terms.
Students will be able to read and write simple music notation.
Students will be able to participate in performance opportunities.

Learning Strategies:

1. Small and large group rehearsals.

2. Fully comprehending and demonstrating rhythm fundamentals.

3. Individual and group performance practice.

4. Ear training.

Student Responsibilities:

30 Minutes of individual practice per week. Coming to each class with a positive and respectful attitude.

Band Instruments :

Flute - cleaning rod and cleaning cloth

Clarinet - cleaning swab, cork grease, 1 box of reeds ( size 2)

Alto Saxophone - cleaner, cork grease, neck strap, reeds size 2

Trumpet - valve oil

Trombone - slide oil

Percussion 4th and 5th – 1 pair of snare drum sticks – beginner.
Snare drum and stand.

String Instruments:

Violin - rosin, bow, 1 extra set of strings, shoulder rest

Viola – rosin, bow, 1 extra set of strings, shoulder rest.

Cello - rosin, bow, 1 extra set of strings, foot stopper.
